Watch D.O.G.S.

Are Dads of Great Students who show up for a day to tell kids they care.  Their collaborative efforts change the culture of their schools.

Every kid needs someone watching

We live in a culture that has idealized independence too long.  As a result, our younger generation is isolated and missing a conscious understanding of their value.  These underlying problems produce symptoms like teen suicide, drug use, drop outs, bullying and criminal behavior.  Kids feel alone and insignificant in a world that is too big for them to be the central figure.
These are enormous, long term problems.  We will not solve them with assemblies, marketing campaigns or hotlines.  We need one-on-one, healthy relationships between older and younger.
There are 13,000 students in the Battle Ground School District - all of them need someone besides their parents speaking into their lives - and listening.
While we can't magically create 13,000 new relationships in one fell swoop, Watch DOGS is a spectacular and powerful beginning.  It gets grown men in regular benificial contact with students.  It builds an new paradigm in the lives of both the kids and the dads:
  • Kids know adults care with no strings attached.
  • They know they are important enough for grownups to show up every day to be with them.
  • Dads learn how much they matter and what's going on in the lives of their children.
  • School staff is supported and encouraged.
  • School campuses feel (and are) safer.
  • Discipline issues decline.
  • Play at recess becomes more productive.
  • The larger community is inspired by the stories and the uniforms.

This excellent program only works if we get involvement from lots of dads and father figures.  Someone needs to be present every day.  You will be kept busy.  You will be extremely useful.  You will be able to dunk the ball.  You will understand the math.  You will find that this is far more enjoyable than you expected.
Please sign up for a day - then tell your story.  Together, we can build a healthier community.
